Mold Testing in Hurst, TX

Lab-checked mold inspection for Hurst homes

Hurst sits in northeast Tarrant County between Fort Worth and the cities around DFW Airport, and Mold Test DFW is close by in Fort Worth. Mold testing in Hurst starts with moisture readings, adds air or surface samples where they will answer a real question, and ends with results from an independent lab.

Line Up a Hurst Mold Test

Texas separates the two sides of mold work: the license holder who assesses a project is not allowed to remediate it as well (Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1958). Mold Test DFW only assesses. For a Hurst property, a few details about the room, the smell or stain, and any recent leak are enough for us to plan the sampling.

Know the Size of the Problem First

A visible spot rarely shows how far the moisture went. Mold testing measures that, identifies what is growing, and points to the water source, so you can budget for the right repair. Because the EPA sets no federal limits for mold in indoor air, your results are read against an outdoor sample taken during the same visit.

Your Sprinkler System and the House

A lawn system that runs before sunrise is easy to forget, and a misaimed head can wet the same stretch of wall several times a week. A few minutes with each zone running will show you whether yours is watering the yard or the house.

Run each zone in daylight

Turn the zones on one at a time and walk the outside of the house while each one runs, checking every wall it reaches.

Watch where the water lands

A head that sprays brick, siding or a window keeps the bottom of that wall wet for hours after the system shuts off.

Check heads after mowing

A broken or tilted head can flood a bed against the foundation every time the system runs.

Skip a watering cycle after rain

A rain sensor, or simply turning the system off after a storm, keeps already wet soil from soaking further.

Inside a Hurst Mold Testing Visit

  • Moisture mapping across walls, floors, ceilings and cabinets near the concern, plus the rooms beside it.
  • Air samples where a smell or symptoms are the main clue, paired with an outdoor sample.
  • Surface samples where something is visible, so the lab can name it.

The readings come first, because they tell us where a sample is actually worth taking.

A Mold Testing Company in Hurst That Leaves the Cleanup to Others

  • We never bid remediation, so our findings carry no sales pitch.
  • Samples are analyzed by an independent laboratory.
  • You get a written report showing where each sample came from, what the lab found, and what to do next.

Our mold testing services in Hurst are available to homeowners, renters and buyers, and you decide who sees the report.

Reasons Hurst Homeowners Call

Mold testing in Hurst makes sense when:

  • A musty smell keeps coming back to the same room or closet.
  • Paint is peeling, bubbling or staining near plumbing or an exterior wall.
  • Flooring has lifted or feels soft in one area.
  • There was a leak, overflow or storm intrusion, even a small one.
  • People in the house feel better away from it. We are not medical providers, so please see your doctor about symptoms; the CDC has a helpful overview of mold and health.

How the Appointment Runs

A mold inspection in Hurst follows five steps:

  • Background: what you noticed, where, and how long ago.
  • Moisture readings: across the area of concern and the rooms around it.
  • Sampling: air, surface or both, chosen from the readings.
  • Laboratory: samples analyzed by an independent lab.
  • Findings: a written report and a call to walk through it.

Other Areas We Serve

Around Hurst we also test homes in Bedford, Euless, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills and Colleyville.

The AC Closet in the Hallway

Plenty of homes have the air handler in an interior closet instead of the attic. It is easier to reach, which makes it easy to check. Open the door a few times a year and look at these three things.

1

The platform and return

In many hallway closets the unit sits on a platform that doubles as the return air path. Gaps around it can pull in attic or wall-cavity air, with its dust and humidity.

2

The pan under the unit

A secondary pan catches water if the main drain backs up. It only helps if it is clean, level and drains somewhere, so look for standing water, rust or a pan that has tilted.

3

The filter and the door

A missing filter lets dust coat the coil, which then holds moisture. A closet door that does not close can let the unit pull air from the wrong places in the house.

A musty smell when the system kicks on, or water on the closet floor, is a reason to call an HVAC technician and to have the nearby rooms checked.

Mold Test DFW is great! Ryan was a HUGE help with my mold problem. My unit had mold. My apartment complex said there isn't mold and did not treat so I called Ryan and he was there same day! Ryan is easy to work with, punctual, and great to talk to. My fiancée and I are looking to buy a home in the future and Ryan will be our first call during our inspection period. 10/10 recommend Mold Test DFW

Ryan did amazing work for us! My wife and I are in the middle of a quick option period for a house, and required a professional inspection done on a questionable bit of surface.

He was able to get in, do a complete thorough walkthrough, send samples off to the lab, and write a report up for us (that included a massive amount of broken down details), all before our option period ended.

Highly recommend using this company for anything, they definitely don’t disappoint!

Ryan is amazing and has gone above and beyond my expectations. My apartment complex has been very difficult throughout me trying to have Ryan do his assessment. The first time Ryan came out to do the assessment we were blocked and denied access to my apartment. It was a horrible situation I wasn't expecting. Ryan was very professional and asked appropriate questions when we were denied access. Throughout this on going process with the apartments, Ryan has been so kind. He is never in a rush and answers all your questions. I'm so grateful for his knowledge and the advice he has shared throughout this process I'm going through. I hope I don't ever have to deal with mold again but if I do I know who to call and I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Ryan Rainey, the owner of Mold Test DFW, is amazing. We had him perform an inspection on a house we intend to purchase, and we are very happy with how he handled our need. After Ryan e-mailed the test results, he spent 45 minutes going over those results with us on the phone. Line by line he explained the problem, the solution, and the estimated cost, telling us along the way what was serious and what wasn't. He is the most thorough inspector I've ever dealt with on anything, and we recommend him to anyone with any type of mold issues. Thanks again, Ryan!!!

His communication is clear and straightforward, and he always takes the time to explain exactly what needs to be done.
What really stands out is how easy he is to work with. Ryan makes the entire process smooth and stress-free. His attention to detail with paperwork is also top-notch—everything is always accurate, complete, and submitted promptly.

We had Mold Test DFW come out to test some dirty remediation equipment that another company had brought into our home after a water leak. I attached a few photos for reference so others can see what we were dealing with.

From the very beginning, Ryan was outstanding—he explained the testing process clearly, answered all of our questions, and made the entire experience stress-free. The appointment was scheduled quickly, and he arrived right on time with all of his professional equipment.

What really impressed us was how thorough and detail-oriented Ryan was. He didn’t just take air and surface samples—he explained each step of the process so we understood how the testing works and what the results would show. He was professional, respectful of our home, and very transparent about what he was doing.

Compared to other companies we’ve used in the past, Mold Test DFW was by far more honest and customer-focused. The final report was easy to understand, very comprehensive, and gave us peace of mind to move forward with the right remediation decisions.

If you need accurate, reliable, and trustworthy mold testing, I highly recommend Mold Test DFW. Ryan went above and beyond, and we’ll absolutely call them again in the future if we ever need testing.

Hurst at a Glance

Hurst is a Tarrant County city of about 10 square miles, bordered by Bedford, Euless, Fort Worth, Richland Hills, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and Colleyville. It grew fast in the 1960s, from 10,165 residents in 1960 to 27,215 in 1970, and counted 40,413 at the 2020 census. North East Mall, Bell Helicopter and the Tarrant County College Northeast Campus are all here, and the Hurst/Bell TRE station opened in 2000.

Because so much of Hurst was built in that 1960s wave, many homes now have decades-old plumbing, roofs that have been replaced more than once, and ductwork that has been patched over the years. Our mold testing company in Hurst reads the moisture in those spots first.

Why Early Testing Costs Less

According to the EPA, wet building materials should be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. Past that point, the repair list usually grows. Mold testing in Hurst early on can mean:

  • Removing a small section of drywall instead of a room’s worth.
  • Finding a slow leak before it damages cabinets or flooring.
  • Dated lab results for an insurance claim, a lease or a sale.

Drying Laundry Indoors

A rack of wet clothes puts a surprising amount of water into the air as it dries. Where you put the rack decides where that water goes.

BETTER SPOT

A bathroom with the exhaust fan running

The fan pulls the moisture out of the house instead of spreading it into the next room.

MORE AIRFLOW

A fan or dehumidifier running nearby

Moving air helps clothes dry within a few hours, which keeps the moisture from settling into walls.

AVOID

Closets and small bedrooms with the door shut

Wet laundry in a closed room can push the humidity high enough to fog windows and dampen drywall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does an electrical outlet on an outside wall smell musty?

Outlets and switch boxes are small openings into the wall cavity, so air from inside the wall can drift out through them. A musty smell there can mean the wall behind it is damp. Leave the cover on and have the wall checked rather than opening it yourself.

It can. Hairline cracks in a slab are common, and most are not a problem, but they can let ground moisture wick up under flooring. A musty smell, cupped flooring or a dark line along a crack is worth a moisture reading.

Often it is a mix of soap residue and surface growth that cleans off with regular scrubbing. It becomes a bigger concern if the grout or caulk around the drain is cracked, because water can get under the shower floor.

Yes. In Texas, a seller must give the buyer copies of any certificates of mold remediation issued for the property in the five years before the sale (Sec. 1958.154). We are not attorneys, so ask your agent how that fits your contract.

Under-stair closets often share a wall with a bathroom, a laundry room or an exterior wall, and they get very little airflow. A slow leak or high humidity can build up there unnoticed. Empty it out and look at the walls and the floor along the back.
