What Testing Answers
Three questions come up on almost every call. Is it mold? Is it spreading? Is the air inside different from the air outside? Samples answer the first and third, and moisture mapping helps with the second. The EPA notes that no federal standard sets an acceptable level of airborne mold, so indoor results are compared with an outdoor sample taken the same day.
After a House Fire, Watch the Water
The water used to put out a house fire soaks into the same places a plumbing leak does: drywall, insulation, subfloor and carpet pad. Smoke and soot get the attention, but trapped water is what leads to mold weeks later. Wilmer learned about fire and water the hard way in 1929. Today the question is what happens after the trucks leave.
Water from the hoses
Firefighting water runs down through ceilings and into wall cavities, often in rooms the fire never reached.
A house without power
If the power stays off after the fire, so does the AC. A closed, humid house is an easy place for mold to start on damp materials.
Rebuilding too soon
New drywall over a wet stud bay seals the moisture in. Readings before the rebuild show whether the framing has dried.
Your restoration company and insurer handle the cleanup. A test from a company that has no part in that cleanup gives you an independent check before the walls go back up.

Why a Mold Testing Company in Wilmer Should Not Sell Cleanup
We never bid on remediation, so there is nothing for us to gain from a bigger finding. Appointments for Wilmer are booked through the Fort Worth office. Whether it is one room or the whole house, our mold testing services in Wilmer follow the same process.
Warning Signs in a Wilmer Home
- A stain that grows a little after each heavy rain.
- Peeling paint or soft drywall near a tub, toilet or water heater.
- An earthy, damp smell in a closet or behind furniture on an outside wall.
- A recent fire, flood or burst pipe, even if everything looks dry now.
- A stuffy nose, wheezing or itchy eyes that seem tied to one room. We are not medical providers, so a doctor should weigh in; the CDC covers the basics of mold and health.
Step by Step: Your Visit
Every mold inspection in Wilmer follows the same order:
- You walk us through the problem and its history.
- We map moisture through the area and the rooms nearby.
- We sample the air indoors and out, and any surfaces that need it.
- An independent lab analyzes the samples.
- We send the report and talk it through with you.

How a Roof Leak Reaches Your Ceiling
A ceiling stain is usually the last sign of a roof leak, not the first. Water takes a path from the roof to the room, and each stage leaves its own clues.
ON THE ROOF
Where water gets in
Pipe boots, flashing around chimneys and vents, and shingles bruised by hail. A small gap may leak only in wind-driven rain.
IN THE ATTIC
Where it travels
Water runs along rafters and decking before it drips, soaking insulation and leaving dark streaks or rusty nail tips under the roof deck.
ON THE CEILING
Where you finally see it
The stain can show up feet away from where the water entered. By then the insulation above it may have been wet for weeks.
That is why, when a ceiling stain is the complaint, we look in the attic wherever it can be safely reached.
What a Store-Bought Kit Misses
Most store-bought kits leave a dish of growth medium open for a set time. Spores settle in every home, so the dish nearly always grows something. Without an outdoor comparison, a measured volume of air, or a lab that identifies the type, the result cannot tell you whether your house has a problem. That gap is what a professional air sample fills.
Reviews From Our Clients

He was able to get in, do a complete thorough walkthrough, send samples off to the lab, and write a report up for us (that included a massive amount of broken down details), all before our option period ended.
Highly recommend using this company for anything, they definitely don’t disappoint!

What really stands out is how easy he is to work with. Ryan makes the entire process smooth and stress-free. His attention to detail with paperwork is also top-notch—everything is always accurate, complete, and submitted promptly.
If you're looking for someone reliable, knowledgeable, and genuinely dedicated to their work, Ryan is the one to call. Highly recommended. United Water Restoration group Arlington, Texas Operations Manager, James Johnson

From the very beginning, Ryan was outstanding—he explained the testing process clearly, answered all of our questions, and made the entire experience stress-free. The appointment was scheduled quickly, and he arrived right on time with all of his professional equipment.
What really impressed us was how thorough and detail-oriented Ryan was. He didn’t just take air and surface samples—he explained each step of the process so we understood how the testing works and what the results would show. He was professional, respectful of our home, and very transparent about what he was doing.
Compared to other companies we’ve used in the past, Mold Test DFW was by far more honest and customer-focused. The final report was easy to understand, very comprehensive, and gave us peace of mind to move forward with the right remediation decisions.
If you need accurate, reliable, and trustworthy mold testing, I highly recommend Mold Test DFW. Ryan went above and beyond, and we’ll absolutely call them again in the future if we ever need testing.
From Prairie Valley to Wilmer
Wilmer began as a settlement called Prairie Valley. The Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived in 1872, and in 1884 the post office was renamed for A.J. Wilmer, a conductor on the line. A fire on July 4, 1929 destroyed most of the business district, partly because the town’s shallow wells could not pump enough water to fight it. When Wilmer incorporated in 1945, its first mayor ran on installing a water system. Today the city covers about 6.4 square miles along Interstate 45 in southeastern Dallas County, roughly 14 miles south of downtown Dallas, and had 4,974 residents at the 2020 census.
Water shaped the town’s early history, and it still decides where mold grows. So on a mold inspection in Wilmer, the first things we check are the plumbing, the roof and anything that has gotten wet recently.
The Case for Not Waiting
Mold needs moisture, and moisture rarely fixes itself. The longer a wet wall or ceiling goes unchecked:
- The more material usually has to be cut out.
- The harder it gets to tell an old stain from an active leak.
- The more likely growth reaches the next room or the attic.
When the Power Goes Out in Summer
An outage that lasts more than a day or two shuts off the system that keeps indoor humidity down. Most homes come through fine, and a few small steps help.

Before
✓ Find the main water shutoff and make sure it turns.
✓ Keep towels and a wet/dry vac where you can reach them.
✓ Clear the AC condensate drain line if it has been a while.
During
✓ Keep doors and windows closed through humid stretches.
✓ Lay towels under the fridge and freezer in case they defrost.
✓ Leave interior doors open so air can move between rooms.
After
✓ Wipe up thaw water and dry the floor under appliances.
✓ Check the AC drain pan once the system restarts.
✓ If the house sat closed and hot for days and now smells musty, consider a test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it mold or mildew?
Mildew is a common name for mold that grows flat on surfaces like shower grout or a damp windowsill, and it usually wipes off. Growth that is fuzzy, raised, or keeps coming back through paint is often rooted in the material. A surface sample tells you what you are dealing with.
Should I open the windows before the test?
Please keep windows and exterior doors closed as much as you can the day before the visit. Air samples are meant to reflect how the house normally is, and a breeze through open windows makes indoor air look more like outdoor air.
Should I turn off my air purifier?
Mention any purifiers or HEPA units when you book. We may ask you to switch them off ahead of the visit so the sample shows what the air is like without extra filtration.
How do you decide which rooms to sample?
We start with the rooms where you have noticed a smell, a stain or symptoms, add any room that shares a wall, ceiling or air return with them, and take an outdoor sample for comparison. If moisture readings turn up something unexpected, we may suggest one more spot.
If I can already see mold, do I still need a test?
Not always. The EPA says a small area, under about 10 square feet, can usually be cleaned by the homeowner. Testing helps when a patch keeps returning, when you smell mold but cannot find it, or when you need documentation for a landlord, buyer or insurer.
